    Mesh Pre-Filters

Posted by Nick on Mar 9th 2024

I have ordered these mesh pre-filters for all 5 of my aquariums. They work great and easy to clean. They keep baby shrimp from getting sucked into the filters. Large debris is also kept out from entering the filters.

    Well made

Posted by Apollo on Jun 22nd 2022

It's really well made but the measurement giving is the outside diameter so I'm you order a 13mm one it's not going to fit on a 12/16mm tube

    Exactly as described

I waited a until i had the screen for a week before submitting this review. The 17mm fits my flu all aquaclear 50 perfect. I got it to protect my African dwarf frogs from the filter intake, and it it does that job very well. The holes are super tiny so I don’t see any fish or even the smallest baby shrimp getting through. FYI if you have a lot of fish the big chunks of detritus and poop will get stuck to the screen, but if your tank is clean it shouldn’t be a big deal. I had a bad detritus buildup when I got this from lack of flow. That’s the only reason I know.... facepalm. Overall the screen looks great and does exactly what it says it will without impeding flow. I don’t know why they don’t sell these at every lfs.

Great quality and very good price

I bought 2 of them to try out and liked the quality so much that I bought 10 more - for all my shrimp tanks. Mesh is small enough to prevent babies to get sucked in but big enough to keep up with water flow. Very happy!

    Perfect fit!

Shipping was quick and the pre-filter fit perfectly like Goldie Lock in Baby Bear's bed. I'd recommend it if you need a pre-filter for your Eheim 2215's.

Good prefilter for Hang on Back filters

Posted by Anthony on Mar 1st 2017

I needed a prefilter for an Aquaclear 50 that kept clogging in just a few days. I tried a prefilter sponge, but it itself rapidly clogged. A friend recommended I try this mesh filter. I'm glad I did: I've had it on for two weeks, and the filter has yet to slow down, let alone clog. I'm very impressed!

Very small mesh keeps shrimplets safe

Posted by TVW on Jul 18th 2016

I tried a much more expensive pre-filter from a large online retailer only to find that the holes were large enough for newborn shrimp to squeeze there way through. Purchased this pre-filter and it is a far better solution. The mesh holes are tiny enough that not even newborn cherry shrimps can fit through, even if they try. That said, I've been running my ZooMed 501 for some time in my planted tank and have not had any issues with it clogging. The pre-filter is very sturdy and you don't feel like you are going to dent it when putting it on. Speaking of installing it, the fit was perfect. The only downside of this product is that the rubber material covering the ends has some faint white writing on it which some people might find unappealing. I just made sure it was facing toward the back and haven't seen it again.
